Based on brain injury statistics, 100,000 Canadians will experience a brain injury each year. 80-100% of those with acquired brain injuries have cognitive-communication difficulties. Speech Language Pathologists treat individuals with communication impairments that are often a result of acquired brain injury. Some of these difficulties include but are not limited to; word finding, understanding information read, understanding information heard, difficulty with planning and organizing, poor memory, poor attention, impulsivity, etc. as well as emotional changes (i.e. difficulty controlling anger.).
